Arthur Fils pulled off a dramatic win over Tommy Paul in the Miami Open quarter-finals, saving four match points before closing out the match.

The Frenchman was 2-6 down in the final set tiebreak and staring at his fifth straight Masters 1000 quarter-final exit. But he turned it around by winning six points in a row to take the match 6-7, 7-6, 7-6.

Fils has been impressive since coming back from injury and will now face Jiri Lehecka in the semi-finals. At just 21, he continues to show why so many are excited about his future.

He even matched a milestone previously set by Richard Gasquet. At 21 years old, Fils has already reached two Masters semi-finals before turning 22 – one more than any of France’s other top players managed at that age.

Arthur Fils is starting to look like the best bet to disrupt the grip Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have on the top of men’s tennis.

Still only 21, he’s already shown he can hang with the elite and has a shot at reaching his first Masters 1000 final later today.

Fils might also be the most intriguing young French prospect since Richard Gasquet, who made headlines as a teenager when he broke into professional tennis at just 15 years old.

According to data from OptaAce, Fils is now the youngest Frenchman to reach an ATP Masters 1000 semi-final since Gasquet did it in Paris back in 2007. Both were just 21 years old at the time.

Gasquet beat James Blake and Andy Murray during that run before falling to David Nalbandian in the semi-finals. Nalbandian would go on to win the title, beating Rafael Nadal in the final.

As for Fils, there’s reason to believe he’ll back himself against Lehecka too. He holds a 2-1 edge in their head-to-head meetings, including a win at this year’s Qatar Open.

Arthur Fils hits milestone not seen since Richard Gasquet after reaching Miami Open semi-finals

Arthur Fils is quickly becoming the most likely player to challenge the dominance of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.

At just 21 years old, Fils has already shown he can hold his own against top players. And today, he has a shot at making his first Masters 1000 final.

The last time French tennis had this much excitement around a young player was when Gasquet broke through at just 15 years old. In fact, there’s a direct link between their careers.

According to OptaAce, Arthur Fils is now the youngest French player to reach an ATP Masters 1000 semi-final since Richard Gasquet did it at the 2007 Paris Masters, at exactly the same age.

That year in Paris, Gasquet also made headlines by beating James Blake and Andy Murray on his way to the semis. He was eventually stopped by David Nalbandian, who then beat Rafael Nadal in the final.

Gasquet’s last major run before retirement came during that Paris event when he knocked out world No. 3 Daniil Medvedev before falling to Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

Kouame managed an impressive win over Zachary Svajda before falling to Jiri Lehecka. That Lehecka connection links him back once again to Arthur Fils’ path through Miami.
