Amid the high-pressure environment of professional tennis, where ranking and earnings tend to take center stage, American tennis sensation Ben Shelton is forging his own path. For Shelton, the journey isn’t about achieving points or accumulating wealth; it’s about self-improvement and ongoing development.
In a recent interview, the American tennis sensation revealed that he is not interested in chasing money or ATP points.
“Yeah, for me, it’s really important that I know myself. I know what makes me play the best,” said Shelton. “Chasing money and chasing points around the world is not going to get me personally where I want to be,” he added.
Ben Shelton says he has been prioritizing a healthy work-life balance and taking it slow whenever he needs a break. This maturity in understanding when to push forward and when to relax, shows how early Ben Shelton has latched onto the important aspects of the sport.
“I got to know when I need to take three or four days off and when I need to not go to a tournament and spend some days at home with my family or friends, and I’m different than most,” revealed Shelton. “Everyone’s just kind of got to find their place where they’re comfortable, and I’m starting to learn that for sure.”
Shelton’s attitude towards the sport is based on self-knowledge and equilibrium. He stresses the need-to-know one’s own requirements. This is an expression of his faith in the fact that individual health is part of professional success.
Ben Shelton also added that he was satisfied with his results so far in 2025. “I have no complaint. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best that I’ve ever started a season,” he said.
