There are plenty of reasons to believe that Alexander Zverev is the best player to never lift a Grand Slam trophy.

While that could still change before he retires, so far his attempts haven’t gone his way.

Having come up during the dominance of the Big Three, it’s not hard to understand why breaking through was such a challenge.

However, as Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have stepped up to take over, missing out on those chances will probably stick with him.

Even so, Zverev still believes it’s only a matter of time before he gets his moment.

Alexander Zverev explains why he truly believes he’ll win a Grand Slam title

But with the German now 28 years old, his window of opportunity is definitely shrinking.

Speaking after his recent victory in Miami, which secured him a spot in the semi-finals, Zverev again made it clear that he isn’t giving up on that goal.

After being informed that he had just won his 200th match at the Masters 1000 level, Zverev downplayed the achievement: “This data is not very important, I don’t think it will break records.”

Zverev knows this too, and was quick to reinforce his focus on what really matters to him.

Zverev added: “One of the main things among those that matter to me is to improve my game to win a Grand Slam; that is my main focus, my main goal. I feel that I am capable.”

“For example, last year I did not feel like that; there I was playing badly and suffering many injuries. When you play with pain constantly, and you are not free on the court, it becomes much more difficult to get your best tennis. Your confidence goes down, and it is complicated to get out of the situation, especially in difficult times like in the Grand Slams.

“This year I feel different, and I feel that it can happen
 and that it will happen”

Zverev has already been told that he’s fixed one key issue holding him back from a major title earlier this year. But if he’s going to make it happen now before time runs out, everything will have to come together perfectly.

Zverev’s reputation as one of the best players never to win a major comes from having reached three Grand Slam finals without a victory in any of them.

His consistent performance over the years reinforces this view; along with seven Masters 1000 titles he has also made seven other semi-final appearances at major tournaments too.
