Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva publicly exchange for the first time since WTA Finals training leak

Jessica Pegula and Mirra Andreeva have broken their silence after the controversy at the WTA Finals.

Ahead of this year’s WTA Finals, players’ practice sessions were being recorded with microphones on the court, something they were unaware of at the time.

This became very clear after a private conversation between Pegula and her coach Mark Knowles was overheard, as the former was heard calling fellow WTA Finals participant Mirra Andreeva a ‘diva’ and saying that she needed to be humbled, in now-deleted footage by the WTA.

These remarks from Pegula had created a huge conversation, with the debate surrounding player privacy being brought to the surface once again, and now the two players have exchanged for the first time since the comments were made.

Ahead of this year’s WTA Finals, players have taken the customary pictures ahead of the tournament. As a result, players including Andreeva and Pegula have been around each other for these pictures.

Andreeva showcased this in a post on her Instagram, where she shared a series of pictures, including one of those with her standing and laughing with Pegula.

Specifically attached to this picture, Andreeva used the caption, “DIVAS (followed by the nails and kissing emoji).”

Andreeva has received a lot of praise for her reaction to the situation, and Pegula also joined in on the fun by adding her own comment to show that there does not appear to be any bad blood between the two players.

Pegula wrote, “*Divas in Chanel*.”

Andreeva and Pegula do not know yet if they will play each other at the WTA Finals this year as they are in opposite round-robin groups and will have to reach the semi-finals if they are to face each other in singles for the first time.

Mirra Andreeva says if she feels confident about the WTA Finals being in Indian Wells

It was also media day for the WTA Finals, but neither Andreeva nor Pegula were asked about the recent drama surrounding the latter’s comments.

Instead, Andreeva spoke about making her debut at the WTA Finals in singles, having only appeared at the year-end tournament in doubles last year alongside Diana Shnaider.

“I’m very excited to qualify for WTA Finals in singles,” Andreeva said in her press conference. “Yeah, I was able to qualify doubles last year. Obviously it’s a whole new story to be able to qualify in singles. Very, very happy with how my season went and super excited to be here.”

The WTA Finals is being held at Indian Wells this year, with Andreeva a former champion at the WTA 1000 tournament held at this venue earlier in the season, having won the title in the Californian desert in 2025. This is also something that Andreeva was asked about and if it gave her any more confidence going into her first WTA Finals in singles.

“Yeah, of course knowing that I was able to play well here last couple of years obviously gives me a little more confidence,” replied Andreeva. “At the same time I feel like every single player that is playing this tournament also knows how to play great on every single surface.

“I don’t know. I just know the fact that I love playing here. I love playing in Indian Wells. I love the surface. I love the atmosphere, as well. I know for sure that I’m just going to enjoy my time here.”

Andreeva is part of Group 2 at the WTA Finals alongside Aryna Sabalenka, Elina Svitolina and Linda Noskova. The Roland Garros champion will play her first match on Monday, November 9 against Svitolina.
