Is Madison Keys inching toward retirement with 2026 WTA Finals role?

The 2026 WTA Finals begin on November 8, and American tennis star Madison Keys will be there, but not as a player.

Keys qualified for last year’s WTA Finals by virtue of winning her maiden Grand Slam at the 2025 Australian Open, but the WTA World No. 24 fell short this year.

Keys is a co-host of “The Player’s Box” podcast along with Jessica Pegula, Jennifer Brady, and Desirae Krawczyk. In that capacity, fans have gotten to know Keys more. She is outgoing, funny, and articulate. All these qualities helped her land her role as a broadcaster at this year’s WTA Finals.

Where is Keys working?

She will work with the British media outlet, SkySports. This is unfortunate news for American fans because they will not see or hear her. Secretly, we hoped Tennis Channel would scoop her up if she was going to be a media person for this event.

Keys will turn 32 in February 2027. No one knows when she will hang up her tennis racket. Keys turned pro in 2009 as a teenager. The 2028 LA Olympics is likely an incentive for her (late twenty and thirty something Americans) to stick around the game a little longer. This is good news for tennis fans who want to keep their beloved stars in the game as long as possible.

Keys’ career at-a-glance

With 11 WTA titles, Keys has made it to the quarterfinals or further in every Grand Slam. Besides her biggest success winning last year’s Australian Open, she lost two heartbreakers to Sloane Stephens.

The first was the 2017 US Open final, and the second was the 2018 French Open semifinal.

When Keys won in Melbourne last year, Stephens was among the first to congratulate her.
