The U.S. Open isn’t all about tennis. For those in the stands, it can also be about the latest fashion and, for some, cocktails.

The U.S. Open’s official cocktail is the Honey Deuce, made with vodka, lemonade, raspberry liqueur and honeydew melon balls to resemble tennis balls. The cocktail was crafted by Grey Goose and is a pricey staple at the two-week tournament. In 2025, more than 740,000 Honey Deuces were sold at the U.S. Open, Grey Goose reported.

And the Honey Deuce isn’t just popular along the courts.

Total Wine & More reported that transactions containing the cocktail’s ingredients (specifically Grey Goose and Chambord) rose 243% during the final two weeks of the 2025 U.S. Open, compared to previous weeks, according to data shared with USA TODAY.

The U.S. Open kicked off on Sunday, Aug. 23, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York. The tennis championship runs through Sunday, Sept. 13.

When was the Honey Deuce introduced?

Restaurateur Nick Mautone crafted the Honey Deuce in 2006. While at a farmer’s market, Mautone saw honeydew melon balls that reminded him of tennis balls, according to the Grey Goose website. That simple inspiration for a garnish spearheaded the beloved cocktail that tennis fans drink today.

Grey Goose, a sponsor of the tennis championships, asked Mautone for his advice in creating a special cocktail for the event.

How did the Honey Deuce get its name?

The cocktail’s name is inspired by the tennis term deuce, a tied score of 40-40.

How much does a Honey Deuce cost at the U.S. Open?

At the 2026 U.S. Open, a Honey Deuce costs $23, according to the Grey Goose website. The cocktail is served in a collectible souvenir cup, while supplies last.

How to make a Honey Deuce at home

Grey Goose classifies the Honey Deuce as an easy-to-make cocktail at home. Here’s the recipe:

  1. Fill a chilled glass with cubed ice and 1Πounces of vodka
  2. Top with 3 ounces of freshly squeezed lemonade and œ ounce of raspberry liqueur
  3. Garnish with a skewer of 1-3 frozen honeydew melon balls

The cocktail can also be made frozen. Put the ingredients in a blender with some ice and blitz until combined, garnishing with the melon balls.

For a larger batch, Grey Goose recommends increasing the ingredients to 16 ounces of vodka, 32 ounces of lemonade and 8 ounces of raspberry liqueur.

The Honey Deuce can also be made as a mocktail by substituting sparkling water for the vodka and raspberry simple syrup for the raspberry liqueur.
