Alex Eala has revealed an interesting sporting comparison after naming Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark as the WNBA player she would choose to compare herself with.
The 21-year-old Filipino tennis star was asked during an interview with Overtime Tennis to name an NBA or WNBA player whose game reminded her of her own. Although Eala admitted that she does not follow either league closely, one name immediately stood out to her.

“Let me preface by saying I don’t think I know enough about the NBA or WNBA, but I would be remiss not to choose Caitlin Clark,” Eala said. “She’s amazing. I think she’s insane. So, hey, Caitlin, I’m Alex. Nice to meet you.”
Eala’s choice comes as little surprise given Clark’s status in women’s basketball. The Fever guard has become one of the most recognisable players in the WNBA and has played a major role in bringing new attention to the league.
Eala has experienced a similar rise in popularity within tennis, particularly in her native Philippines. Her breakthrough performances have attracted a growing following, with Filipino fans turning out in large numbers to support the young star.
The comparison is therefore less about their playing styles and more about the impact both athletes have had on their respective women’s sports. Clark has helped drive interest in women’s basketball, while Eala’s rapid rise has generated fresh excitement around tennis in the Philippines.
Eala is also preparing for a busy period at the 2026 US Open, where she is set to compete in the mixed doubles event alongside Felix Auger-Aliassime. The pair received a wild card and are scheduled to begin their campaign on August 25.
She will then feature alongside close friend Iva Jovic in the Stars of the Open exhibition match on August 27.
The women’s singles draw will also mark an important moment for Eala, as she is expected to receive a Top-20 seeding. It will be her first direct entry into the US Open main draw after going through qualifying last year.
