Aryna Sabalenka suffered a stunning loss to Sara Bejlek in the fourth round at the Cincinnati Open, but the Belarusian’s conduct toward a ball kid during the game drew more attention.

On Thursday, Sabalenka faced Bejlek, but was ousted by the Czech player in straight sets. At one point during the match, while facing a break point, a visibly frustrated Sabalenka missed the ball the ball kid passed for her serve.

It prompted the Belarusian to snap at the youngster. Sabalenka shoved the second ball out of frustration toward the stands before returning to her baseline.

The moment garnered backlash online. Some fans called her disrespectful, while others criticized her for losing her composure.

Aryna Sabalenka Stunned at the Cincinnati Open

Aryna Sabalenka went into Ohio as one of the top favorites to bag a hard court title before the US Open. The hopes plummeted after Sara Bejlek overwhelmed her in straight-sets.

Sabalenka took an early lead 2-0, but the World No. 35 Sara Bejlek fought back to take the first set.

Next up, the pair exchanged a series of service breaks before a tiebreak, and here Bejlek got a 5-1 lead. Sabalenka fought hard to make it 5-5, but after a few more intense exchanges, she failed to capitalize. In two hours, Bejlek created history by winning against a top-10 player for the first time, 7-6(9-7), 6-4.

While Bejlek has made it to her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal, Sabalenka has suffered another loss in a string of disappointing results since winning the Sunshine Double in March.

The last semifinal that Sabalenka was in this year was at the Berlin Open, where she faced a crushing defeat by Jessica Pegula in three sets.
