MASON − After a wild Wednesday that saw top seeds fall, the Cincinnati Open moves into quarterfinal action on Thursday, Aug. 20 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

On the ATP side, none of the top 8 in the world remain after Wednesday’s Round of 16. World No. 3 and top seed Alexander Zverev fell to American Tommy Paul in three sets. Another American, Frances Tiafoe, knocked off the No. 2 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets. Two more Americans, Taylor Frtiz and Brandon Nakashima, will face off in the quarterfinals Friday, Aug. 21. An American man has not won the Cincinnati Open in 20 years.

For the WTA, five of the top 10 seeds remain in the Cincinnati Open, though World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka’s summer slump continued in a late-night loss in straight sets to Sara Bejlek.

There are only four singles matches slated for Thursday. During the day session, it’s an All-American WTA quarterfinal between No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula and No. 9 seed Amanda Anisimova. After that, Paul will face Italian No. 7 seed Flavio Cobolli, the only ATP top 10 player (No. 10) remaining in the field.

In the night session on Center Court, reigning Cincinnati Open champion Iga Swiatek faces World No. 2 Elena Rybakina. Thursday concludes with France’s Arthur Fils facing Thiago Agustin Tirante.

Madeira Caty McNally is still in the doubles draw alongside partner Iva Jovic. That tandem will face China’s Xinyu Jiang-Shuai Zhang in the quarterfinals Thursday during the final match of the day session.
