Serena Williams is gearing up for her next appearance at the Cincinnati Open following her exit from Wimbledon. However, she recently caught many off guard with her aerial GLP-1 advertisement in Cincinnati. Fans spotted a banner high above the Cincinnati courts featuring Williams, leaving many baffled.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion recently drew attention with a striking marketing stunt that featured a long banner flying high in the sky with her picture on it. The banner depicts the name Ro alongside an image of Williams administering a GLP-1 injection.

Fans took to social media and criticized the out-of-home advertisement promoting the drug. Some called her out for going too far to promote a weight loss drug, while others found the entire stunt bizarre.

Many have echoed the criticism made by some commentators that a prominent athlete like Williams should not be advertising a weight-loss drug. Critics believe that such advertisements could send the message that there is a shortcut to getting lean.

Williams, who is closely connected to the telehealth company Ro, has openly admitted to using one of its most prominent GLP-1 weight-loss drugs, Zepbound.

Serena Williams’ GLP-1 Weight-Loss Journey

Last summer, Serena Williams admitted taking Zepbound to boost her weight-loss journey post-pregnancy. She has since notably promoted GLP-1s through her social media and also became Ro’s brand ambassador.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion said that none of the other conventional methods to achieve a desired physique worked for her until she discovered GLP-1. The American legend also claimed that the GLP-1s have helped her manage her blood sugar levels on a daily basis.

Williams claimed that she had lost 34 pounds in a year since injecting GLP-1s, and revealed that her lifetime risk of cardiovascular disease decreased by 19%, while also seeing a 30% improvement on her cholesterol levels.

Serena Williams will reunite with her sister Venus Williams at the Cincinnati Open to launch a doubles campaign after the pair received a doubles wild card.
