Jannik Sinner and Girlfriend Laila Hasanovic React to George Russell and Fiancée Carmen’s Engagement With Sweet Messages

Jannik Sinner may be away from the ATP Tour for now, but he has remained engaged with his friends’ lives on social media. The World No. 1 joined the celebrations after F1 star George Russell announced his engagement to longtime partner Carmen Montero Mundt.

Following Russell’s update on Sunday, August 9, Sinner and his girlfriend, Laila Hasanovic, congratulated the couple and shared their best wishes.

Russell, who made his relationship with Montero Mundt official in 2020, shared pictures from their candlelit beachside engagement on social media. Montero Mundt also showed off her stunning engagement ring, drawing reactions from the couple’s friends and the wider F1 community.

Sinner, a friend of Russell’s, was among the first to react to the Brit’s celebratory post. “Congratssss,” he wrote on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Laila Hasanovic, a Danish model and social media influencer, who has been in a relationship with Sinner since early 2025, wrote, “So happy for you two! Big Congratulations.”

Sinner has forged a strong friendship with the Mercedes racing driver, with both stars residing in Monaco. The five-time Grand Slam champion, who is also a Friend of F1, attends Grand Prix events whenever his busy tennis schedule allows.

During one such appearance, Sinner told the F1 Paddock Club that he could relate to George Russell when it comes to their mentality toward competition. “He is very relaxed, obviously very, very focused and concentrated during his race, very similar to me.”

The tennis star also invited Russell and Montero Mundt to his player box during his title-winning run at the Monte-Carlo Masters earlier this year. The couple joined Hasanovic in the stands to cheer Sinner on.

“We are good friends, and I was pleased he was in my box. When I went to the Grand Prix, he invited me to go into his box. We are more like good friends; we support each other,” he said in his press conference at the tournament.

On the tennis side, Sinner has not competed since successfully defending his Wimbledon title on July 12. He subsequently withdrew from the Canadian Open before extending his break further by pulling out of the Cincinnati Open on Sunday.

“After consulting with doctors and my team, I have to announce that I have been forced to withdraw from the Cincinnati Masters 1000. My right knee is giving me some problems, and while we’ve worked hard with my medical team, I have to accept that I’m not ready to compete yet,” he said.

The World No. 1 would hope to return to full fitness in time for the US Open later this month as he bids to claim his sixth Grand Slam title and second in New York.
