Alexandra Eala’s Latest Injury Update After Canadian Open Scare

Very few players have managed to create the kind of excitement around them that 21-year-old WTA star Alexandra Eala has generated in such a short period of time. Tennis can be a lonely sport for the players, but it is also one of the most passionate spectator sports when a player manages to capture the imagination of fans with her performances.

The young Filipino is certainly one of those players. That was evident during her victorious run at the Washington Open, where she claimed the biggest WTA title of her career. Eala has carried that momentum into the ongoing Canadian Open, winning her first two matches despite facing some difficult moments along the way.

After defeating Americans Alycia Parks and Caty McNally, Eala has advanced to the round of 16, where she will face experienced campaigner Belinda Bencic. However, there were genuine concerns about whether the 21-year-old would even be able to continue in the tournament after an injury scare during her match against McNally.

How Serious Is Alexandra Eala’s Injury?

Eala suffered a bad fall in the second set and rolled her ankle, immediately requesting a medical timeout. Her ankle was wrapped in bandages before she returned to the court and eventually completed a three-set victory, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

The injury naturally raised concerns among her growing fanbase, but Eala was quick to play down the scare during her post-match press conference. The Filipino made it clear that she did not believe the injury was anything serious.

“I kind of rolled my ankle in that second set… I called the physiologist… But luckily there’s nothing wrong with it, and it was no serious problem.”

Eala also admitted that she is feeling physically exhausted after a demanding run of matches over the past few weeks. That could give Bencic a slight advantage heading into their round-of-16 clash, especially with the Swiss player bringing plenty of experience to the matchup.

Still, Eala has shown throughout her recent run that she is capable of pushing through difficult situations. With her growing fanbase continuing to back her, the young Filipino will be hoping to overcome the fatigue and produce another big performance as she looks to reach the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open.
