The No. 2 ranked men’s tennis star will not be participating in the Cincinnati Open due to a wrist injury that is set to keep him out.
Carlos Alcaraz is arguably the biggest star in tennis at the moment. The Spaniard is ranked No. 2 in the ATP rankings, behind reigning Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz and Sinner have quickly established themselves as the main men in the current scene. However, they haven’t clashed at the highest level in a while, with Carlos missing both the French Open and Wimbledon.
The 23-year-old has spent most of 2026 recovering from a wrist injury. And just as he was set to make his return to ramp up ahead of the US Open, Alcaraz has suffered another setback.
Cincinnati Open announces Carlos Alcaraz will not participate in the tournament
One of the oldest tennis tournaments in the United States, the Cincinnati Open is generally a great precursor for the US Open, which is set to follow later in August.
For Alcaraz, it would have been an excellent launching pad as he makes his return from injury. However, it seems that won’t be happening this year.
“Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the Cincinnati Open,” the tournament’s official handle announced on X. “Wishing all the best to our 2025 champion in his recovery process. Can’t wait to welcome you next year!
Alcaraz won the competition last year, and indeed, went on to win the US Open as well, defeating Sinner in four sets in the final.
With the Spaniard unable to participate, fans are worrying this will lead to him being unable to defend yet another major title. Hopefully, Alcaraz will still be able to make it back in time for the big one.
