Taylor Fritz wins Mubadala DC Open

After a frustrating tennis season that involved a nagging knee injury, Taylor Fritz won the rain delayed 2026 Mubadala DC Open on Monday, August 3.

It was a grueling win after a day of bad weather that left Fritz and Jodar waiting all day to ultimately not play.

Fritz is emotional after clinching the win

He was called the “elder statesman” of the American men at this tournament.

Fritz let out the emotions after match point in a way that we have not seen from him recently. It is indicative of his struggles with his knee that kept him out of the sport for two months after the Miami Open.

Fritz is 28 and continues to be the best American man to never win a Grand Slam.

Is this a stepping stone to a big North American summer swing that could put Fritz in a position to win the US Open?

11th career ATP title

It is his 11th career ATP title, and the first of 2026.

Fritz recently recorded his 250th career hardcourt win. He is also inching closer to 400 career wins.

No American sweep since Pegula lost

Jessica Pegula lost to Alexandra Eala in the match prior to Fritz’s so the Americans did not sweep the singles titles in Washington, DC.

Eala finished the best week of her career, earning the biggest title so far. She recorded wins over Leylah Fernandez, Qinwen Zheng, Elina Svitolina, Naomi Osaka, and Pegula en route to the win.
