Jannik Sinner Spotted on Luxury Cruise in Genoa Amid Canadian Open Withdrawal

Just hours ago, Jannik Sinner officially pulled out of the upcoming Canadian Open in Montreal to rest and recover, but the Italian was quickly spotted far from the hard courts, aboard a luxury cruise ship, ‘Explora III,’ in Genoa, Italy. Two weeks after his second consecutive Wimbledon triumph, Sinner attended as the guest of honor for Explora Journeys, stepping onto the Mediterranean liner to launch an ocean wellness program.

As the global brand ambassador for the luxury cruise line, Sinner appeared at the port to kick off a two-day event. Passengers who wanted an exclusive face-to-face meeting with World No. 1 could do so by donating €250, with all proceeds going to the Jannik Sinner Foundation and the MSC Foundation.

Speaking to Italian newspaper Il Secolo XIX from the ship, Sinner reflected on returning to Liguria, a region that means a lot to him, having moved to Bordighera at age 13 to train under Riccardo Piatti.

“The sea has always given me a sense of vacation, relaxation, tranquility, and beauty,” the 24-year-old said. Addressing his role in promoting Italian culture globally, he added that while he always strives to be his best, being Italian also means savoring life’s finer pleasures, such as good food, travel, and time with loved ones.

The five-time Grand Slam champion chose to withdraw from the Masters 1000 event in Montreal because of physical exhaustion following his second consecutive Wimbledon title earlier this month. Sinner also had to miss this tournament last year due to an injury. This time, it’s also part of the precautions and managing the hectic calendar.

Sinner’s focus remains on the upcoming North American hard-court swing and the US Open. “Together with my team, we are already preparing for this second part of the season,” he said, reflecting on a 2026 campaign that has seen him hold the ATP World No. 1 spot for over 81 weeks.

If he had played in Montreal, the Italian could have completed a historic clean sweep of all nine Masters 1000 titles in a single season. But by skipping, Sinner chose his health over records. Even so, he has totally dominated the ATP Tour this year, with a remarkable 44-3 record. At the top of the rankings, he has a big lead over Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz, who has been sidelined due to a right wrist injury since April.

Sinner’s next expected tournament is the Cincinnati Masters, which begins on Aug. 11.
