The main draw of the LADIES OPEN Amstetten got underway on Monday (July 20 2026). Austrian wildcard Ava Schüller was the first home player in action before the final qualifying matches were completed. Two major upsets and the longest match of the tournament so far highlighted an eventful day.
Schüller Falls to Wimbledon Quarterfinalist Ava Schüller became the first Austrian to compete in the main draw. The 20-year-old from Klosterneuburg faced sixth seed Anna Sisková of the Czech Republic, who reached the Wimbledon doubles quarterfinals just two weeks ago.

Schüller made a fearless start by breaking serve in the opening game. However, Sisková quickly found her rhythm, took control with her variety and consistency, and eventually claimed a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Despite the defeat, the match marked a valuable experience for Schüller at the biggest tournament of her career so far.
Upsets in Qualifying
Before the main draw began, the remaining qualifying spots were decided. The biggest surprise came in the opening match on Centre Court, where top seed Aneta Laboutková of the Czech Republic lost 7-5, 6-2 to Poland’s Zuzanna Bednarz, missing out on a place in the main draw.

Another upset followed as fourth seed Lucie Petruželová was defeated by Slovakia’s Kali Supová, who also secured a spot in the main draw.
