Venus Williams Decides To Renew Alexandra Eala Partnership in Washington, D.C.

Venus Williams and Alexandra Eala will be renewing their partnership later this month when they team up to take part in the 2026 Mubadala DC Open. The tennis legend and talented youngster also competed together earlier this year.

The DC Open will kick-start the North American hard-court swing, culminating with the US Open.

Venus Williams to Start North American Swing With Alexandra Eala

After missing out on playing women’s doubles at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships alongside her sister Serena Williams, the older Williams sister will make her return to Washington, D.C. for the WTA 500 event that kick-started her own tennis comeback last year.

Williams has accepted a wildcard at the tournament and will team up with Eala, marking their reunion after a successful partnership at the Bad Homburg Open.

Eala and Williams made the quarterfinals at the grass-court tournament, showing encouraging signs with their win over Alexandra Osborne and Catherine Harrison.

One of the most accomplished players in history, Williams has enjoyed a glittering doubles career. She is a 14-time Grand Slam champion in women’s doubles and has also won two Major titles in mixed doubles.

Williams teamed up with Hailey Baptiste in Washington, D.C., last year, and the duo made the quarterfinals of the tournament. She also claimed her last singles win on the tour at the DC Open and will also be competing in the singles tournament this year.

Injuries to her partners have prevented Williams from competing in the last two Grand Slams. First, Baptiste suffered a torn ACL, forcing Williams to miss the French Open. Then, the younger Williams sister injured her knee during her singles match at Wimbledon, prompting the legendary duo to withdraw from the doubles category. She, however, participated in the mixed doubles event with Kevin Krawietz.

Meanwhile, Eala is coming off an encouraging grass-court swing that saw her win the Birmingham Classic challenger event before an impressive run at the Wimbledon Championships, where she defeated defending champion Iga Świątek in straight sets.

The 21-year-old made the fourth round at Wimbledon, which catapulted her to 28th place on the WTA rankings. She was also voted the “Star of the Swing” for the grass-court season by the WTA.

On the back of the best Grand Slam run of her career, Eala will now have her sights set on another strong showing at the US Open. Eala, the 2022 girls’ champion, made her main-draw debut at the US Open last year, reaching the second round before losing to Cristina Bucșa.
