Reports are emerging that Carlos Alcaraz could make his return to action at the Cincinnati Open after four months out with a wrist injury.

Reports in Spain are claiming that Alcaraz’s wrist has fully healed, paving the way for him to increase his workload in training as he gets ready to return to the ATP Tour. According to La Verdad, he is expected to defend his titles at the Cincinnati Open and the US Open.

This update drew an excited reaction from Becker, who is hoping to see Alcaraz back on the ATP Tour for the North American swing.

“Finally some good news regarding the injury of Alcaraz! Hopefully he will be back for Cincinnati and the US Open …fingers crossed,” he wrote on X.

Becker had shared his fears over Alcaraz’s injury last week, claiming that his training videos made it appear that he was nowhere near being close to a return.

Navratilova reacted to the post from Becker and expressed her delight at the latest reports on Alcaraz’s injury.

“Great news indeed,” Navratilova wrote, along with three crossed-fingers emojis.

Alcaraz suffered an injury to his right wrist during his opening match at the Barcelona Open. The initial plan was for him to return to action at the Wimbledon Championships. However, he was forced to miss the entire grass-court swing and has now also been ruled out of the Canadian Open.

Amid this injury, Alcaraz has slipped to third place in the ATP rankings, with Alexander Zverev pipping him after winning the French Open and reaching the Wimbledon final.

It remains to be seen whether Alcaraz will be back to 100% fitness in time for the North American swing. The Cincinnati Open will get underway on August 11, while the first round of the US Open is due to begin on August 30.
