Jannik Sinner is just one win from successfully defending his Wimbledon crown and clinching his first Grand Slam title of the season. The world No. 1 triumphed over Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, setting up a blockbuster showdown with Alexander Zverev in the final. With the highly anticipated battle around the corner, Sinner revealed how he will spend his day off before his biggest match of the year.

Jannik Sinner Dismisses Superstitions Ahead of the Wimbledon Final

After suffering a disappointing loss to Djokovic in the Australian Open semifinals earlier this year, Sinner exacted his revenge with a dominant display in their Wimbledon semifinal rematch. The Italian claimed a stellar 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory in two hours and 20 minutes to book his spot in his second consecutive final at the grass-court Major.

During his post-match press conference, Sinner dismissed the idea of following any superstitious rituals on his day off before Sunday’s title clash, saying he would stick to his normal routine. He expressed interest in watching England take on Norway in the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup while emphasizing his relaxed approach.

“No, no. No superstitions. I’m very normal. I like to spend time with my team, with my friends if they come. World Cup is now. I think tomorrow England is playing so I like to watch football at the moment. The final is I think at 4:00. It’s late afternoon so you don’t wake up at 9:00 in the morning. You can sleep a little later. I’m very relaxed. I don’t have anything what I do in the same thing over and over again,” Sinner said.

The 24-year-old also said he intended to savor the “rare” experience of competing in a Major final, saying, “I also enjoy the moment. I know how rare these days are. Grand Slam finals. Tough to achieve and to arrive. You also need to enjoy this moment and the process.”

Looking ahead to the championship battle, Sinner acknowledged that Zverev would enter the contest full of confidence after winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open.

“He’s definitely a big server. In any case, I try to do my best on Sunday. It feels good again being back in a Grand Slam final. It’s good for me. I’ll just try to do my best. Whatever happened in the past between me and him, it happened. In between, he won a slam in Paris, which gave him a lot of confidence. We can see the level he’s producing here. We all hope for a good match. Then we see how it goes,” he said.

Although Jannik Sinner played down the significance of his past encounters with Alexander Zverev, their head-to-head record firmly favors the world No. 1. Sinner enjoys a 10-4 winning record against the German and has won each of their last nine meetings.
