Carlos Alcaraz is continuing his rehab as he looks to recover from his right wrist injury in time for the US Open. However, tennis legend Boris Becker does not believe that the Spaniard is anywhere close to being ready to return.
Boris Becker Shares Thoughts on Carlos Alcaraz’s Injury Recovery
Alcaraz has been sidelined since April after injuring his right wrist during his first-round match at the Barcelona Open. It was initially thought that he could return to action in time for the grass-court swing. However, after missing the clay-court and grass-court swings, his participation at the US Open is now also in doubt.
The 23-year-old recently returned to training at his tennis academy and shared a video of his progress on social media. However, Becker is not confident that he will be back on the court anytime soon.
“Nice to see him hit a little but still far off I am afraid,” the six-time Grand Slam champion wrote on X while reacting to a video of Alcaraz serving.
Alcaraz is already missing from the Canadian Open entry list, which begins on August 2. Fans will hope to see him back in action at the Cincinnati Open, where he is the defending champion, but it remains to be seen whether he will be ready in time for the ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
The US Open is due to begin on August 30, so Alcaraz still has more than a month to work on his recovery. He will be defending 2,000 ranking points at Flushing Meadows. The 23-year-old also has 1,000 ranking points to defend in Cincinnati as last year’s champion.
Amid his absence from the ATP Tour due to injury, Alcaraz is set to find himself down in third place in the ATP rankings when they are updated following the conclusion of the Wimbledon Championships. He will be overtaken by Alexander Zverev, who is set to move up to second place after winning the French Open and making the Wimbledon final.

Alcaraz started his year by winning the Australian Open, but things have not gone according to plan for him since. He had a disappointing Sunshine Swing and lost to Jannik Sinner in the Monte-Carlo Masters final before sustaining an injury that has forced him to spend the last two months on the sidelines.
With the US Open on the horizon, Alcaraz will look to continue increasing his practice intensity in the coming weeks, aiming to return to full fitness for the final stretch of the season.
