Novak Djokovic is two wins away from a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam and an eighth Wimbledon title.

If Djokovic wins the Wimbledon this year, he would equal Roger Federer’s record of 8 men’s singles titles at the All England Club.

Coincidentally, few of Djokovic’s Wimbledon titles have a very unique connection to the FIFA World Cup.

The FIFA World Cup pattern Novak Djokovic will hope continues

Every time the FIFA World Cup has been held since 2014, Novak Djokovic has gone on to lift the Wimbledon trophy. With the World Cup going on right now, the Serb will be hoping the trend continues.

Djokovic won Wimbledon in 2014, 2018 and 2022, with each of those title wins coming during a FIFA World Cup year.

The Serbian defeated Roger Federer in the 2014 final, Kevin Anderson in 2018 and Nick Kyrgios in the 2022 final. While the World Cup has no direct impact on Wimbledon, the coincidence has become an interesting talking point as Djokovic bids for his 25th Grand Slam title.

The 39-year-old will be hoping for history to repeat itself as winning Wimbledon would also make him the first player (men and women) to win 25 singles Grand Slam titles. He currently ties with the legendary Margaret Court for the 24 major titles.

Jannik Sinner stands between Djokovic and another Wimbledon final

Before Djokovic can think about another Wimbledon final, he must first get past the current world No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner.

A rematch of last year’s Wimbledon semi-final, Djokovic would be hoping for a different result this year. Sinner had a convincing win in last year’s semi-finals as he beat the Serbian in straight sets.

Sinner is one of just eight men who have a winning record against Djokovic (players he played more than once). The overall head-to-head record stands 6-5 in favour of Sinner, with the Italian winning 5 of their last 6 meetings.

Djokovic now has the opportunity to avenge last year’s defeat and move one step closer to the historic 25th Grand Slam title.
