Coco Gauff’s impressive run at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships came to a heartbreaking end after a narrow loss to Karolína Muchová in the semifinals. Despite the disappointing loss, the American remained unfazed by the negative comments and abuse she expected to receive on social media, brushing them off as a common occurrence.

No. 7 seed Gauff advanced to the semifinals of the grass-court Major after a gritty campaign, which included hard-fought wins over Belinda Bencic and Jessica Pegula. She faced another tough test against Muchová, who dominated the opening set to take an early lead in their clash. However, the American raised her level in the second set, sending the match into a decider.

The players were evenly matched during the tense third set, with Gauff finally getting the chance to claim the win at 9-8 in the tiebreak. However, in a decision that has drawn widespread scrutiny, the 22-year-old opted for a drop shot that failed to clear the net, and Muchová went on to claim a 6-2, 1-6, 7-6[12-10] victory to book her spot in the final.

During her post-match press conference, Gauff said she expected to see hateful comments on social media after the loss. However, she dismissed them as “the usual,” joking that she would save her response to the bettors until she was back to winning ways.

“I’ll be online. I probably already got some hate comments and stuff but it’s okay. It just makes you stronger. Bettors who lose who are mad and stuff, it’s the usual. It sucks but it’s whatever. I’ll come on the winning end next time and I’ll be sure to tag ‘em,” Gauff said.

The two-time Grand Slam champion also maintained that even her haters would have to acknowledge the progress she made over the course of the tournament.

“I definitely think I’m progressing in the right direction, with the serve, with being aggressive. There’s definitely some points I regret, maybe being passive on some of those break points, but it’s going to take time and putting myself in these positions to unlearn habits and build new ones,” she said.

“You hate me or love me, you can’t deny the progress that’s been made this tournament. There’s a lot of positives. It gets me excited for the future for sure,” she added.

Furthermore, Coco Gauff was full of praise for Karolína Muchová after their tense battle, emphasizing her immense respect for the Czech star and saying she “deserves more success with how talented she is.” Muchová will have a shot at achieving that success in the Wimbledon final, where she is set to face compatriot Linda Nosková.
