Fans eager for Wimbledon ‘pretty match’ with Grigor Dimitrov, Matteo Berrettini

Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov may have uttered the best line of the 2026 Wimbledon Championships to date.

When asked about his third round match against 30-year-old Italian Matteo Berrettini, Dimitrov said: “If nothing else, it’s gonna be a pretty match.”

It will be a pretty match and a battle between players who had devastating injuries curtail their Grand Slam aspirations.

Memory of Dimitrov injury at Wimbledon 2025 still fresh

Many wonder what could have been if Dimitrov, 35, had not gotten injured against Jannik Sinner last year at Wimbledon.

He was playing great tennis and had Sinner on the ropes with a two set lead before the pectoral injury forced him to retire.

Dimitrov’s best Wimbledon result was a semifinal finish in 2014.

Berrettini retired at 2026 French Open

Matteo Berrettini‘s tennis resume is filled with stoppages because of injuries, most recently he retired at the 2026 French Open.

His best Grand Slam result was at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships when he made it to the final.

Head-to-head record is dead even

Surprisingly, the two have only played each other twice, both matches happened in 2019 where they split the results. Their Wimbledon match will be played on July 4 at a time yet to be determined.
