It is the news that no one wanted to hear about Chris Evert. Amid the Netflix press tour and her upcoming ESPN commentary duties at Wimbledon, we learned on Wednesday that she quietly stepped away to deal with a health issue.
That issue is a recurrence of ovarian cancer, her third bout with it. After losing her sister Jeanne to the disease iin 2020 and learning that she also had the BRCA gene, she underwent a preventive hysterectomy in 2021. Ovarian cancer diagnoses occurred in 2022 and 2023.
Evert has been a champion on and off the tennis court. Her tenacity is demonstrated in the Netflix documentary dropping on June 26. It is called âChris and Martina: The Final Set.â

Evert has a positive outlook
She issued a statement on social media on Thursday explaining the situation.
Evert underwent surgery on Tuesday June 23 and announced she will begin chemotherapy in the coming weeks.
A true champion in every sense of the word, Evert also said: âOvarian cancer is relentless, but I will stay optimistic and determined in continuing to fight the battle.â
