Mirra Andreeva has a chance to make history at this yearâs Wimbledon.
The 19-year-old captured her first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros, becoming the tenth-youngest woman ever to win a major singles title.
The Russian will be looking to carry that form into the grass-court season, and is set to play in the Bad Homburg Open before heading to Wimbledon.
If she can go all the way at SW19 this year, sheâll match a feat not seen in over a decade.
Having just picked up her first Grand Slam title, Andreeva now has a shot at completing the âChannel Slam,â which means winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same season.
Mirra Andreeva could match Serena Williamsâ feat this summer
Itâs a rare achievement, with only seven women managing it during the Open Era. Serena Williams was the most recent, pulling it off in 2015.
Williams did it twice in her career, with a 13-year gap between her two Channel Slams â one in 2002 and another in 2015. Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, and Martina Navratilova are also among those who have achieved this feat.
But none of them reached it as often as Steffi Graf, who managed to win both tournaments back-to-back five times during her career.
On the menâs side, the Channel Slam has been accomplished by only six players in the Open Era. The most recent addition is Carlos Alcaraz, who captured both titles in 2024 and nearly repeated the feat last year.
Carlos Alcaraz latest to join the elite group of men to win the channel slam
Among the group are Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer, with Nadal doing it twice â once in 2008 and again in 2010.
Bjorn Borg stands alone with three consecutive Channel Slams from 1978 to 1980. That consistency sets him apart from an already exclusive list.
Zverevâs attempt at joining this group comes as a surprise given his track record. Heâs never advanced beyond Wimbledonâs fourth round or picked up a title on grass.
