After disappointing runs in Paris, Jannik Sinner and Iga Świątek have started their preparations for the 2026 Wimbledon Championships.

The reigning men’s and women’s Wimbledon champions will have their sights set on retaining their grass-court crowns this year. But both Sinner and Świątek are facing uncertainty surrounding their form as they gear up for the grass-court swing.

Sinner has already arrived at Wimbledon as he aims to successfully defend his crown. He defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the 2025 men’s singles final to become the champion. The World No. 1 was pictured taking in the sights at the All England Lawn Tennis Club on Thursday before getting started on the practice courts.

In what many have deemed an unusual approach to preparing for a grass-court Grand Slam, Sinner was seen training on hard courts alongside Holger Rune in Monaco. He is not scheduled to compete at any warm-up tournaments before the start of the Wimbledon Championships. He will instead compete at an exhibition event in London before starting his title defense.

Sinner had complained about fatigue heading into the French Open, which may have played a role in his early exit at Stade Roland-Garros. He has only lost one match since February, but that defeat against Juan Manuel Cerúndolo from two sets up raised plenty of questions surrounding his fitness ahead of the grass-court swing.

Meanwhile, Świątek is gearing up to compete at the Bad Homburg Open, which marks her first appearance on the WTA Tour since her loss to Marta Kostyuk in straight sets at the French Open. The Pole also competed at the WTA 500 tournament last year, losing to Jessica Pegula in the final.

Świątek used the run to the final as a springboard to winning the Wimbledon Championships, and she will be eager for a repeat this year. The World No. 3 outclassed Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in last year’s women’s singles final.

Świątek, who begins her grass-court swing with a 21-10 win-loss record for the year, was seen training with Mirra Andreeva on Thursday.

Both players are in the field for the Bad Homburg Open. Andreeva will also be determined to start her grass-court swing on a high note after an impressive clay-court swing that ended with her winning the French Open.

The 2026 Bad Homburg Open will get underway on Monday, with Świątek seeded second behind Elena Rybakina and Andreeva seeded third.
