It feels like 2022 all over again. Venus and Serena Williams have turned back the clock, with Wimbledon confirming the sibling duo’s wildcard entry. This is set to mark their first partnership since the 2022 US Open, when Serena bid goodbye to tennis. While Venus Williams has continued to make occasional appearances on the WTA Tour, her sister’s return has injected fresh excitement into women’s tennis.

Wimbledon’s announcement on Tuesday, June 16, sent the tennis world into a frenzy, leaving fans wondering whether it was too good to be true.

Serena Williams Takes Her Comeback Up a Notch With Sister Venus at Wimbledon

After a break of almost four years, Serena reversed her retirement, accepting doubles wildcards at grass-court events. She inaugurated her campaign at Queen’s Club last week, alongside 19-year-old Canadian star Victoria Mboko. The players made a winning start, beating Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe in straight sets. They were, however, forced to abandon their quarterfinal as Mboko pulled out of the tournament injured.

Serena has now reached Berlin, where she has accepted another wildcard to compete alongside Karolína Muchová. Incidentally, Routliffe is again the American’s first opponent, this time pairing up with Giuliana Olmos.

Just hours before Serena Williams begins her Berlin Tennis Open run, a bombshell wildcard line-up for Wimbledon has emerged, featuring her and her sister. Venus and Serena are the only non-British pair to bag a wildcard entry in women’s doubles.

Reacting to the news, one fan said, “Back together and back at Wimbledon?! This is the comeback we’ve all been waiting for. Two legends, one mission. Rooting for you both all the way!”

“I used to pray for times like this,” another fan chimed in.

“YO THIS IS CRAZY,” one fan said in disbelief.

“Greatest doubles duo of all time returning to the place where they won 6 titles together… Wimbledon just got 1000x better. Thank you for this moment!” another fan said.

Here’s how some other tennis community members reacted:

Venus and Serena have an enviable doubles record at the Grand Slam level, having won all 14 finals they’ve contested. Wimbledon has been their most successful tournament as a pair. They’ve won six women’s doubles trophies and a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics. Their 2026 return carries real weight, with past success at the tournament positioning them as legitimate contenders.
