Serena Williams Takes Her Comeback Up a Notch With Sister Venus at Wimbledon

After a break of almost four years, Serena reversed her retirement, accepting doubles wildcards at grass-court events. She inaugurated her campaign at Queen’s Club last week, alongside 19-year-old Canadian star Victoria Mboko. The players made a winning start, beating Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Erin Routliffe in straight sets. They were, however, forced to abandon their quarterfinal as Mboko pulled out of the tournament injured.

Serena has now reached Berlin, where she has accepted another wildcard to compete alongside Karolína Muchová. Incidentally, Routliffe is again the American’s first opponent, this time pairing up with Giuliana Olmos.

Just hours before Serena Williams begins her Berlin Tennis Open run, a bombshell wildcard line-up for Wimbledon has emerged, featuring her and her sister. Venus and Serena are the only non-British pair to bag a wildcard entry in women’s doubles.
