With the return of Serena Williams to professional tennis, it got us thinking about her rivals in her peak era, and American Jennifer Capriati immediately came to mind.
Capriati was a teenage prodigy and superstar of the likes that American tennis fans had not seen since Chris Evert and Tracy Austin.
After a Hall of Fame career and a tumultous time off court, the 50-year-old Capriati emerged at this yearâs Australian Open to present the trophy to Elena Rybakina.

Capriati has been remarkably low profile
Considering many of her peers including Venus and Serena Williams and Kim Clijsters have podcasts, Capriati does not have one.
She does the majority of her talking about the sport on social media. Her X account has over 23,000 followers, and they are treated to her tennis insight when she chooses to post. It is not a daily occurrence and tends to fall during Grand Slams.
That implies that she still follows the sport but has found a fulfilling life enjoying other interests also. A bittersweet part of being a young talent is that all of the fame and stress hits early in life, but there is time for life outside of the sport after the dust settles.

Capriati is an International Tennis Hall of Famer inducted in 2012. She won 14 WTA titles including three Grand Slams (two wins over Martina Hingis and one over Clijsters) and was an Olympic champion in 1992 defeating Steffi Graf in the gold medal match.
Should she ever want to step back into the game in a higher profile capacity as a coach, broadcaster, or otherwise, her voice and insight would be welcomed by fans who feel as though they grew up with her and enjoyed watching her game.
