Flavio Cobolli’s maiden Grand Slam final didn’t pan out as he would have hoped, as Alexander Zverev emerged victorious in their blockbuster clash to clinch the 2026 French Open title. Despite falling short, the Italian has received an outpouring of support, with Iga Świątek and Carlos Alcaraz among those sending heartfelt messages.

How Iga Świątek and Carlos Alcaraz Reacted to Flavio Cobolli’s French Open Loss

Cobolli made a stellar start to his French Open campaign, advancing to the fourth round without dropping a set. He then defeated Zachary Svajda 6-2, 6-3, 6-7(3), 7-6(5) and reached the semifinals after defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in their quarterfinal showdown.

Subsequently, the Italian received direct entry into the final after Matteo Arnaldi withdrew from the Major before their semifinal clash due to a stomach illness. Although Cobolli put up a spirited fight in his title clash against Zverev, he was ultimately unable to get over the line as the German secured a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 victory and won his maiden Grand Slam title.

Nevertheless, Cobolli earned the praise of several of his fellow players. Świątek congratulated him on his run with an amusing reference to their dispute over her beloved strawberry pasta dish.

“Congrats @flavio_cobbo 👏👏 I guess you had the strawberry pasta after all ☺️💪,” Świątek posted.

Alcaraz also comforted the Italian with an uplifting message, assuring him that more Grand Slam finals awaited him in the future. The seven-time Grand Slam champion was forced to skip his title defense at the French Open due to a wrist injury.

“Congratulations Flavio for your first GS final! ❤️ I’m sure there will be many more! @flavio_cobbo,” Alcaraz said.

Lorenzo Musetti, who also missed the clay-court Major due to a thigh injury, proudly reacted to Cobolli’s performance.

“With a very high head 🇮🇹 ❤️,” Musetti said.

Jasmine Paolini also acknowledged her fellow Italian after his loss.

Despite his crushing loss in the Roland Garros final, Cobolli graciously acknowledged Zverev as the more deserving player at the end of their four-hour and 16-minute battle.

“I think he deserves it. I also think today he deserved it more than me at the end of the match,” the Italian said in his post-match press conference.

The 24-year-old also maintained a positive attitude about the defeat, expressing pride in himself and disclosing that he planned to spend the evening enjoying the moment with his loved ones.

So I have to be proud of myself and try and try and try again,” he added.
