Jannik Sinner appears to be putting the disappointment of his French Open run behind him, with the world No. 1 spotted in Sardinia for a getaway with his girlfriend, Danish model Laila Hasanovic. The Italian was also joined by his father, Hanspeter, and brother, Mark, amid reports that he had a personal interest in choosing the island as his vacation destination.

With the men’s French Open final taking place on Sunday, June 7, it feels unusual not to see Sinner competing for the title in Paris. Given that the Italian entered the Major on a remarkable 29-match winning streak and having clinched all three clay-court Masters 1000 events, he was expected to continue his dominance at Roland Garros and complete the Career Grand Slam.

The world No. 1 kicked off his campaign with a commanding 6-1, 6-3, 6-4 win over ClĂ©ment Tabur. However, Sinner found himself in trouble after leading 6-3, 6-2, 5-1 during his second-round clash against Juan Manuel CerĂșndolo. As he battled dizziness, nausea, and weakness in the hot Paris conditions, CerĂșndolo mounted a comeback to claim a 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 victory and oust the Italian from the tournament.

Although Sinner returned to Monaco after his loss, he has since jetted off to Sardinia with his girlfriend, Laila Hasanovic, his father, Hanspeter, and his brother, Mark. Hasanovic, who had been spending time at home in Copenhagen during the world No. 1’s French Open campaign, brought her pet dog Snoopy along for the trip.

According to reports from local Sardinian media, Sinner’s visit to the island is linked to a real estate project, with claims that he is purchasing a villa in Porto Rafael. While those reports are unconfirmed, the 24-year-old will likely maintain Monaco as his primary residence, having recently explained why he chooses to live in the principality.

Speaking to L’Equipe after his Italian Open triumph, the world No. 1 revealed that, despite missing his family in Italy, he chose to reside in Monaco because of the peace, tranquility, and ideal training environment it provided.

“I chose Monaco for the peace and quiet I find here: I can go to a restaurant or do my shopping without anyone paying attention to me, and that’s exactly what I need. I must also say that the facilities—tennis courts, gyms—are perfect. Of course, I miss my family. My grandparents are getting older, and I’d like to be able to visit them more often. But if I had stayed home to train, I wouldn’t have been in the optimal conditions to become the best player I could be,” he said.

Following his trip to Sardinia, Jannik Sinner will likely begin gearing up for the grass-court season, with the aim of defending his title at the Wimbledon Championships and winning his first Grand Slam title of the season. The prestigious event will get underway on June 29.
