Maja Chwalinska concluded a career-changing three weeks at the 2026 French Open in a straight set loss to Mirra Andreeva.
Chwalinska, 24, looked understandably tired from all the tennis she played from the qualifying rounds through the finals to achieve Roland Garros success.
Despite not lifting the champion’s trophy, Chwalinska changed the course of her career this spring in Paris.

What’s Chwalinska’s next move
Rest is probably first on her agenda; however, as Sloane Stephens pointed out, this was a life changing tournament for her for all the right reasons.
She earned more money in three weeks than in her years competing on the WTA Tour. Her ranking is up 93 spots to World No. 21.
That ranking will enable her more direct entry to tournaments without playing qualification rounds. It gives her notoriety and financial security.

As Stephens explained, she will be more in demand for fan autographs, press commitments, and her matches and progress will be watched more closely.
Chwalinska’s cool demeanor allowed her to handle the three weeks with grace. Her speech after losing the final shows that she is a woman who does not let the highs or lows of the sport get to her too much. That comes from experience and from publicly walking away from the sport in 2019 for mental health reasons.
What about Wimbledon
She is not an automatic main draw entry because of the cutoff date for qualifying for it (6 weeks prior to the tournament).
That means she will either have to play qualifying rounds or hope for a wildcard. Wildcards are difficult to get and usually reserved for British players. This year, Chwalinska could be competing with Serena Williams for one.
If 2025 results are any precedent, Chwalinska will have to qualify just as Lois Boisson had to do after her 2025 French Open semifinal finish. Boisson lost in the first round of Wimbledon qualifying matches.
