Zachary Svajda’s French Open run ends with formidable battle with Flavio Cobolli

Flavio Cobolli was the heavy favorite to win his French Opentennis match over American Zachary Svajda. It turned out that he did. Cobolli should be looked upon as a favorite to go the distance at this year’s French Open.

However, what looked like it would be a straight set routine affair for Cobolli was anything but. Svajda challenged Cobolli, pushing him to third and fourth set tiebreaks, winning the third set. He even pushed through an opening set nasty fall while near the chair umpire.

Svajda is not a natural clay court player. He has only started playing on the surface in recent years. Svajda does not have the movement and ability to slide that the Europeans who grew up playing on the surface have developed naturally.

Svajda’s resume-building French Open opens doors

Now that Svajda has cracked into the later rounds of a Grand Slam, we will be seeing more of him.

Main draw opportunities await him as he has jumped 26 spots in the ATP live rankings and currently sits at 59th.

We cannot wait to see what he can do this summer in the US Open hardcourt series.

Up to Frances Tiafoe now

American men’s singles hopes are heaped on the shoulders of Frances Tiafoe. Tiafoe, like Svajda, has to face an Italian in Matteo Arnaldi on Monday.

We are crowning a maiden Grand Slam champion in men’s singles on Sunday, June 7. Could it be Big Foe’s time?
