The first week of the French Open is taking place during a heat wave at Roland-Garros, making the conditions difficult for players during daytime matches. On Wednesday, the heat appeared to get to Jakub Mensik, who needed medical attention after getting a huge win.

Mensik faced off against Mariano Navone in his second match of the tournament. The Czech player took down the Argentine in five sets. However, Mensik immediately needed to be looked at after collapsing to the ground in clear discomfort following the match.

Mensik is just 20 years-old and has appeared in all but one grand slam tournament since the 2023 U.S. Open. Mensik was ranked No. 27 in the world entering this tournament and hoped to make a deep run in Roland-Garros.

Here’s the latest on Mensik’s health after his Wednesday win.

Jakub Mensik health updates

After securing a win over Mariano Navone in a grueling five-set match, Jakub Mensik collapsed to the court but struggled to get back up. Mensik was clearly in discomfort while trying to get off the ground, but ultimately needed medical assistance.

Medical staff brought Mensik ice to try and cool him down as it appeared as if his legs severely cramped up. While the staff were prepared to help him off the court via a wheelchair, Mensik was able to walk off the court himself, albeit while surrounded by medical staff.

Mensik has a day to recover before his next match against Alex De Minaur on Friday afternoon, and if he can’t go he’ll be forced to forfeit and withdraw from the tournament.

Jakub Mensik vs. Mariano Navone

Mansik’s match against Mariano Navone lasted four hours and 41 minutes as the Czech tennis player won in five sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (13-11). The final set of the match was the only one to go to a tiebreak, an Mensik needed to win 13 points in that tiebreak in order to secure the victory.

The action at Roland-Garros occurred during a significant heat wave in France, as the five-set match was tougher than usual due to the conditions. The 20-year-old Mensik is playing in his second French Open and hasn’t made it farther than the fourth round of any grand slam tournament.
