Boys tennis: NLS, Benson advance individuals to state

May 26—REDWOOD FALLS — New London-Spicer’s Jowell Gamez and Benson’s Alex Carlson and Harold Habben are headed to the Class A state boys tennis tournament.Gamez finished as runner-up in Section 3A singles and Carlson and Habben won the Section 3A doubles title on Tuesday at Redwood Valley High School.

The Class A state individual tournament begins on Thursday, June 4 at InnerCity Tennis in Minneapolis.

Gamez, who opened up with a semifinal sweep of Redwood Valley’s Charlie Fox, fell 7-6, 6-3 to top-seeded Zack Lundeen of Redwood Valley in the championship.

Carlson and Habben, who started with a 6-2, 6-1 semifinal win against NLS’ Jameson Dragt and Liam Hanson, secured a 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 win over Redwood Valley’s Andri Geisser and Rick Green.

Green and Geisser are also going to state after they beat Dragt and Hanson in the true second place match.
