Novak Djokovic is gearing up for just his fourth tournament of the year, with Roland Garros next on his schedule.

The Serbian has only appeared at the Australian Open, Indian Wells, and the Italian Open in 2024, with his best showing being a run to the final in Melbourne.

Djokovic chose not to defend his Geneva Open title this week, which means he’ll head to Paris having played just one match on clay this season.

On top of that, the 38-year-old faces a challenging draw at Roland Garros that could see him meet Casper Ruud as early as the fourth round.

But even if his chances of winning a 25th Grand Slam seem slimmer than usual, Djokovic is still poised to break an incredible all-time record in Paris.

Djokovic set to break Federer record at Roland Garros

When he steps onto the court for his opening match against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, Djokovic will make his 82nd appearance in a Grand Slam singles draw.

That moves him past Federer, who made 81 major appearances before retiring. Feliciano Lopez also reached that mark, while Stan Wawrinka sits further back with 76.

The French Open has always been a challenging tournament for Djokovic compared to others, but he’s still managed to win it three times.

His first came in 2016, followed by two more in 2021 and 2023. This year, though, another deep run would come as a surprise given his current form and draw.

Novak Djokovic faces an unknown opponent in Roland Garros opener

Djokovic is set to open his French Open campaign against Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, a player he hasn’t come up against before. The match-up brings a bit of uncertainty, even though Perricard hasn’t found much form on clay this year.

Perricard has played just two tour-level events on the surface so far. He reached the second round at the Italian Open and then went out in the first round of Geneva against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The 20-year-old is currently ranked world No. 80, with his career-high coming earlier this year at No. 29.
