Tennis teams learn sectional draw from IHSAA

The IHSAA announced the sectional pairings for girls’ tennis Sunday. The sectional tournament begins Tuesday around the state.

Greensburg travels to Columbus North (Sectional 20) for sectional action. In the opening round, the Lady Pirates face Hauser at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Lady Pirates defeated Hauser 5-0 during the regular season.

With a win against the Lady Jets, Greensburg will face Columbus East in the sectional semifinal at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. Columbus North and Edinburgh square off in the other semifinal.

Batesville is the host for Sectional 19.

The Lady Bulldogs open the sectional at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday against South Dearborn. The winner advances to face Lawrenceburg in the semifinal.

Milan faces East Central in the other opening round match Tuesday. The winner will take on Oldenburg Academy in the semifinal.

Connersville hosts the 4-team Sectional 22.

Franklin County and Rushville open sectional action at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the first semifinal. Connersville and Union County square off in the other semifinal at 5 p.m. Friday.

Rushville 4 South Dearborn 1

The Lady Lions tennis team capped the regular season with a 4-1 win at South Dearborn Friday. The Lady Lions finished the season at 7-9.

At No. 1 singles, Rushville’s Izzy Simmermon defeated Miyah Lane 6-1, 6-0. At No. 2 singles, Rushville’s Annie Buzzard knocked off Tessa Hinkle 6-2, 6-1. Rushville’s Grace Doll rallied from a set down to defeat Brynn Hamlett 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

Rushville’s No. 1 doubles team of Cora Morgan and Kelsey Morgan defeated Samantha Harms and Aubrey Lagaly 6-3, 7-5. At No. 2 doubles, Rushville’s Karigan Cox and Elise Cain lost to Madison Disney and Lily Rollins 6-2, 6-1.

Rushville’s junior varsity squad (5-7-1) defeated South Dearborn 4-1.

At No. 1 singles, Rushville’s Brylee Shaver won 8-3. At No. 2 singles, Rushville’s Kensleigh Jackson cruised to an 8-0 victory. Rushville’s No. 1 doubles team of Chloe Pickett and Kennedy Miller won 8-6. Rushville’s No. 2 doubles team of Sheyann Lakie and Ila Frank won 8-3.
