Luciano Darderi apologizes for highly ridiculed Italian Open entrance in Casper Ruud match

In case you missed Luciano Darderi had a tremendous run in his home tennis tournament, the Italian Open.

That run came to an end on Friday with a semifinal loss to Casper Ruud.

Unfortunately, his entrance to the match is what has overshadowed his performance throughout the tournament including a big upset win over Alexander Zverev.

Darderi’s entrance

Darderi, 24, was feeling the nerves and adrenalin of the most significant match of his career. He made an entrance, comparable to a prize winning boxer, with sunglasses on and a smile from ear to ear.

Ruud came out before him, stopped and took the hand of the young person who was to escort him on court.

Darderi forgot that part, moving swiftly passed the child awaiting him and never turned back.

To be fair, everyone makes mistakes. It is odd that none of the tournament people mentioned his omission to him, and he could have fixed the error in real time.

I don’t know much about Darderi, but given the moment, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and some grace.

Darderi apologizes

Darderi issued an Italian social media apology, and hopefully all is forgiven.

He learned a painful lesson, in front of millions of eyes, and he certainly won’t make the same mistake twice.

On top of this, he lost the match 1-6, 1-6 to Ruud so he suffered enough for one day.
