Boys tennis: Singles set the tone in Litchfield win

May 15—LITCHFIELD — The Litchfield boys’ tennis team’s singles players dominated in the Dragons’ postseason opener.

The Dragons cruised to a 6-1 victory over Blue Earth in the Section 2A quarterfinals on Friday. Litchfield is the No. 2 seed. Blue Earth is the No. 7 seed.

Litchfield will play in the section final four at the Wilkinson Tennis Center at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter on Monday. The Dragons face third-seeded St. James in the semifinals that are at 10 a.m. The winner plays in the final afterward.

St. James advanced with a 5-2 victory against No. 6 Westonka on Friday.

Mathias Bruning did not lose a game in a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles over Jack Bell. Tommy Wittrock, Josh Blomberg and Max Grabow also won for Litchfield in singles.

Isaac Elwell and Andy Wittrock fought off a tight first set to beat Mitchell Stevermer and Noah Hanson at No. 2 doubles, 7-5, 6-2. Everett Carlsona and Zeke Bruning added a victory at No. 3 doubles for the Dragons.
