Alexander Zverev accuses Tennis Channel of favoritism

ATP World No. 3 and German tennis player Alexander Zverev took to social media to accuse Tennis Channel of favoritism.

Specifically, he cites examples of the production segments taped at various tournaments where his content is not shown.

Zverev is known as the best player on the ATP Tour who has yet to win a Grand Slam, and he suffered a disappointing loss at this week’s Italian Open to the home country’s upstart Luciano Darderi.

He is probably right but should not have said it out loud

Zverev is probably right. Generally speaking, Tennis Channel has its favorites. The network has spent a lot of time talking about Alexandra Eala and Joao Fonseca. While they are impressive rising stars of the sport, they have yet to put a lot of titles behind their names.

The network seemingly pays attention to social media which gives it direction on players who are creating a lot of buzz.

By calling out Tennis Channel publicly, it makes the situation worse and could backfire for him as fans take issue with his opinion. If there was a way to communicate his thoughts behind the scenes to Tennis Channel, it may have been a better option.

Maybe he just needed to vent, but we hope Zverev has moved on. His fans want him focused on winning Roland Garros. While Jannik Sinner continues to be a juggernaut, the injury-related absences of defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, former semifinalist Lorenzo Musetti, and Jack Draper could make for an unpredictable fortnight at the French Open at Roland Garros.
