UH beach duo earns All-America status

Hawaii beach volleyball duo Julia Lawrenz and Izadora Stedile were named to the AVCA All-America second team on Thursday.

Lawrenz and Stedile, both from Curitiba, Brazil, went 23-8, primarily at the No. 1 position, this season.

The pair became UH’s 14th and 15th players to earn All-America status.

Stedile also earned All-America honorable mention status in indoor volleyball last year at Hofstra.

The AVCA All-America teams consisted of 16 pairs on the first team and 16 on the second team.

UH’s Visaya doubles up in tennis honors

Hawaii’s Azuma Visaya made the Big West Men’s Tennis All-Conference first teams in singles and doubles, released Thursday.

The UH men’s and women’s tennis squads placed nine players on the all-conference teams.

Visaya played doubles with partner Toa Maeda.

Timothy Li was voted honorable mention in men’s singles, and Adriano Dzhenev/Kent Mueller earned honorable mention in doubles.

Rainbow Wahine doubles teams Hannah Galindo/Makeilah Nepomuceno and Grete Gull/Sophie Rachor made the second team.

In women’s singles, Gull and Nepomuceno were named honorable mention.
