Carlos Alcaraz sent shockwaves through the tennis world with news no one wanted to hear.
Alcarazâs wrist injury, picked up earlier this month in Barcelona, has turned out to be worse than initially expected. Heâs now officially ruled out of this yearâs Roland Garros.
Itâs a tough blow for the 22-year-old and a big loss for the tournament where he was aiming to defend his back-to-back titles.
Rafael Nadal, who understands better than most what it takes to win at Roland Garros, was quick to offer his support after hearing the news about Alcaraz.
He took to social media to send a supportive message to his fellow Spaniard.
Carlos Alcaraz receives heartfelt message from Rafael Nadal
âHang in there, Carlos!â Nadal started, showing a level of empathy that few others could offer.
Throughout his career, the 22-time Grand Slam champion regularly had to fight through injury concerns that impacted his game. And now, looking at the early days of Alcarazâs career, he will no doubt be hoping that the same pattern doesnât emerge again.
Nadal went on: âI hope you have a speedy recovery.â
Nadal added some supportive words: âThese difficult moments highlight everything youâre doing. Stay strong and sending you a big hug!â
There was an article this week from the New York Times that outlined how Nadalâs own record was even more impressive considering whatâs happened to Alcaraz. But donât expect him to look at things that way. This isnât how he wants success to be measured.
Roland Garros issues statement after Carlos Alcaraz pulls out of 2026 Tournament
Itâs no surprise that Roland Garros was gutted by the news of Alcarazâs withdrawal.
Losing both the defending champion and one of the tournamentâs biggest stars is a major blow to the event.
The tournament addressed his absence with a message on social media:
âSome heartbreaking news as Carlos Alcaraz, our 2024 and 2025 champion, will not be able to defend his title at Roland-Garros 2026 due to a wrist injury,â they wrote on Instagram. âWishing you all the best in your recovery Carlos, weâll miss you!â
