Boys tennis roundup: Litchfield cruises past St. Peter

Apr. 24—LITCHFIELD — Litchfield’s doubles teams excelled in a home win on Friday.

The Dragons’ duos were 3-0 in a 6-1 victory over St. Peter in boys tennis at Litchfield High School.

The biggest win came at No. 2 doubles.

Isaac Elwell and Matt Defries lost the first set to the Saints’ Elijah Cherland-Narum and Caleb Gilbertson. But, Elwell and Defries won the next two sets without surrendering a game for a 5-7, 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Matthias Bruning and Grayson Swenson won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Everett Carlson and Zeke Bruning completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles.

Securing singles wins for Litchfield were Timmy Wittrock at No. 1, Josh Blomberg at No. 2 and Max Grabow at No. 3.

The Dragons go to Benson at 1:30 p.m. Monday.

New London-Spicer went 3-0 in doubles play to secure a win against Foley at New London.

Oden Hanson and Isaac Palmer clinched No. 1 doubles 6-1, 6-0 over the Falcons’ Liam Harris and Gabe Gross. Crew Werder and Liam Hanson won at No. 2 doubles and Jensen Davis and Quinn Wenke claimed No. 3 doubles.

NLS’ Jowell Gamez won a tight first set at No. 1 singles to beat Colton Stangler, 7-6 (3), 6-2. Jameson Dragt and Coleman Davis won at Nos. 3 and 4 singles.

NLS hosts Minnewaska at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Benson won three of the four singles matches to top the Cardinals at Benson.

Alex Carlson, Harold Habben and Carson Petrak won at Nos. 1, 2 and 4 singles for the Braves.

Deven Hegreberg earned the one singles point for Willmar. He beat Brandon Sondag in three sets, winning 6-3, 6-7, 10-5.

Willmar won a pair of matches at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. Nehemiah Van Horne and Lucas Riemersma earned a 6-2, 6-1 over Joey Wilcox and Andrew Mattheisen. Ethan Eckhoff and Mason Munkholm won 6-1, 6-3 against Jameson Klucas and Coy Helmberger.

Benson’s Brooks Groinus and Cian Klucas won 6-3, 6-2 against Cam Lager and JD Swenson at No. 1 doubles.

Benson hosts Litchfield at 1:30 and heads to Granite Falls to play Yellow Medicine East at 4:30 p.m. Monday. Willmar plays at Monticello at 4 p.m. Monday.
