Carlos Alcaraz has already made a major impact on the 2026 season, breaking new ground in tennis.

The Spaniard’s win at the Australian Open made him the youngest male player ever to complete a Career Grand Slam.

Despite this historic achievement, Alcaraz hasn’t won a title since February, and his hold on the world number one ranking is under serious threat from Jannik Sinner.

While speaking with Marca, Ferrero stressed that consistency is the key for Alcaraz if he wants to be considered among the greatest of all time.

Alcaraz has hit the ground running in 2026, picking up titles at both the Australian Open and Qatar Open, but Ferrero has long believed he could become the greatest ever.

Speaking to Marca, Ferrero was asked if Alcaraz can become the greatest of all time, and replied: “Yes, of course. What he needs to do is keep his motivation intact.

“He needs to stay motivated when he’s achieving all the goals he’s set for himself, and then, when his motivation isn’t at 100%, professional discipline has to kick in.

“I think Carlos will stay motivated because he knows he has some very important players ahead of him, players who have achieved great success, and he wants to be one of them.

“I don’t see any reason to think his motivation will drop in the short term, and I hope he stays at this level for a long time because he’ll have opportunities to win major titles.”

The Spaniard did have a tough run through Indian Wells and Miami though. He lost matches against Daniil Medvedev and Sebastian Korda during that stretch.

Next up for Alcaraz is a return to Monte-Carlo where he’ll look to defend his title after lifting it last year. The focus will be on whether he can hold off Jannik Sinner in a battle between two young stars who look set to rule tennis over the coming years.

Monte-Carlo presents Alcaraz with first ATP Tour meeting against Etcheverry

Despite being a fixture on the ATP Tour since 2019, Carlos Alcaraz has never faced Tomas Martin Etcheverry before their upcoming round of 16 clash at the Monte-Carlo Masters.

The world number one will be up against a clay court specialist who has had more recent experience on the surface.

This isn’t their first-ever meeting, though. Back in 2020, they played each other at a Challenger event in Trieste, where Alcaraz came out on top in straight sets.

This time around, things are expected to be far different from that initial encounter in Italy.
