Daniil Medvedev has shown promising signs of a return to form under new coaches Rohan Goetzke and Thomas Johansson, hinting at a resurgence that could see him add to his Grand Slam titles.

Since teaming up with his new coaches, Medvedev has already reached the Indian Wells final and picked up three ATP titles. It’s been a solid start to the partnership.

Back in the top 10 of the rankings, Medvedev doesn’t have many points to defend on clay this year, which gives him plenty of opportunity to climb higher without much pressure.

Looking ahead to the Monte-Carlo Masters, Medvedev took stock of his season so far and pointed out one area that hasn’t quite met his expectations yet.

Daniil Medvedev reflects on the positives of his 2026 season so far

Medvedev told reporters: “I think it was quite good. I’m someone who always wants more, especially the way I played some of the tournaments.”

One area he’s already looking to improve during the clay court swing is consistency. While he’s pleased with his overall form, Medvedev knows there’s room for more stability across tournaments.

“I’m not happy that I didn’t manage to bring that to all the tournaments I played, but that’s how tennis is. That’s the difference between the guys who win 20 Grand Slams and me, who is very good but isn’t going to win 20 Grand Slams.”

Still, Medvedev finds encouragement in his return to top form and his current standing inside the top 10 of the rankings.

“I’m third in the Race and feeling happy with my game
. With my game and my shots, I’m not someone who can play badly and win matches,” he said.

“So to win a lot of matches, I need to play well. So if I’ve won a lot of matches, it means I’ve been playing well.”

Daniil Medvedev’s best-ever run at the Monte-Carlo Masters

Clay hasn’t always been friendly ground for Medvedev. His only Masters title on this surface came at the Italian Open back in 2023.

The Russian has only reached one semi-final before this year, which came back in 2019.

During that run, he took down both Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic before losing to Dusan Lajovic in straight sets. Lajovic was unseeded at this tournament but went on to reach an unexpected final after beating Medvedev.

If Medvedev can find a similar form again this year, it will be considered a major positive from what has already been a strong start to 2026 so far.
