Nick Kyrgios, despite the noise and controversy around him, is still seen by many as one of the most naturally gifted players the sport has ever produced.

Kyrgios never captured a singles Grand Slam, but he’s always been confident that his career stacked up well against most others.

But while much of his time on tour was spent trying to compete with the Big Three, injuries took their toll in recent years. In that stretch, a new generation started to make its mark on the sport.

Asked if it is healthy for tennis to have Alcaraz and Sinner dominating in this way now, Kyrgios admitted that he did not want to see one or two players win everything again.

Kyrgios also highlighted how rivals like Dominic Thiem and Stan Wawrinka were able to break through during that era too, whereas now it seems even more top-heavy with Alcaraz and Sinner.

Speaking just after confirming his participation in the French Open and Wimbledon, there’s a growing hope that fans might get the chance to see him play against one of the world’s top two before he hangs up his racket for good.

Kyrgios is well aware of how difficult it will be for others to break up their dominance, with few players on tour currently able to challenge them consistently.

Even so, Kyrgios said: “Yes, of course [their dominance is good for tennis]. Don’t forget, in every era, there is someone or multiple people who dominate. Right now, it’s Alcaraz and Sinner. Those two will be battling it out for a long time.”

Kyrgios also spoke about his recent ventures into pickleball through partnerships with Picklr and Vulcan – a brand he has just launched a new custom paddle design with.

Nick Kyrgios shares his goals for the end of his career

Kyrgios wasn’t just talking about those looking to break into the top tier. When asked about his own hopes before stepping away from the game, he kept it simple.

It was a response that seemed to capture how his perspective has shifted after time away from a sport that’s long shaped his life.

He said: “To enjoy the time I have left. I have no regrets.”

That shift in focus isn’t surprising, considering everything Kyrgios has faced over recent years. Titles and records aren’t likely to be front of mind at this stage of his career.

Even so, Kyrgios has plenty to look back on with pride. The highlight for many will be his 2022 Australian Open doubles title alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis.
