Iga Swiatek has started her clay-court preparations by spending time at the Rafael Nadal Academy, making the most of her break between tours.
Swiatekâs schedule has been packed between the hard-court and clay-court seasons, and she wrapped up the former on a frustrating note.
The Polish star lost her first match at the Miami Open and then decided to part ways with Wim Fissette, who had been coaching her since October 2024.
It hasnât taken long for Swiatek to find a replacement. While training at Nadalâs academy, she confirmed that Francisco Roig had joined her coaching staff. Roig previously spent over 15 years as an assistant coach in Rafael Nadalâs team before leaving in late 2022.
Iga Swiatek greeted by Rafael Nadal at his training base
Nadal was quick to greet Swiatek, posting a photo of them together on Instagram with the caption: â[Iga Swiatek] welcome back to the Rafa Nadal Academy!
âEnjoy your time here! We hope you feel at home.â
She also put up a story featuring a photo with Roig, along with the caption: âWelcome to the team, Francisco!
âVery excited for this new chapter.â
The two Spaniards worked closely from 2005 until 2022. Roig then moved on to coach Emma Raducanu.
However, their partnership didnât last long. Raducanu ended things just six months later after the Australian Open.
Alexandra Eala trains at the Rafa Nadal Academy ahead of Linz
Swiatek has not been the only player making use of the Rafa Nadal Academy in recent weeks. Rising talent Alexandra Eala has also been training at the facility as she gears up for the start of her clay season.
A graduate of the academy, Eala is preparing for her first clay tournament of the year, set to take place at the Linz Open in Austria later this month.
Meanwhile, Swiatek is scheduled to return to competition in Stuttgart, where she is expected to compete alongside top players such as Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff.
