Deja Blue: Leylah Fernandez’s Charleston Open Lululemon kit looks familiar

The tennis calendar has officially transitioned from hardcourt to clay season. One of the perks of a new surface is seeing the new kits worn by the top players.

Canadian Leylah Fernandez has been a Lululemon athlete for years, and her kit always attracts attention.

At the Credit One Charleston Open, Fernandez wore a new kit that looked surprisingly familiar.

Sky blue is the color for this clay season

Adidas finally shed the reds and oranges and is running with a sky blue color this spring, and it appears Lululemon is doing the same. The key difference between Fernandez’s look and the Adidas athletes is that she wore a two piece two-toned kit with complimentary blue shades.

Though Fernandez lost her first round doubles match with partner Kristin Mladenovic who wears Adidas, this photo shows that the great minds at Adidas and Lululemon were thinking alike for this season.

Outside of Wimbledon where white is required, we are not used to seeing players wear a similar color.

We have yet to see Lulu-Foe, better known as Frances Tiafoe yet in Houston, so we do not know if the men will be wearing blue also. Tiafoe opens his US Men’s Clay Court Championship campaign on Thursday.

For those wondering what Nike is up to, it looks like the Sunshine Double kit is still in play evidenced by Madison Keys and Bianca Andreescu’s yellow Nike kits worn in Charleston. Presumably a clay season reveal will be forthcoming when the players hit the European red clay.
