Boys tennis: Ottumwa wins season opener at North

DES MOINES — The Ottumwa High School boys tennis team opened the season on Tuesday securing an Iowa Alliance Conference south division win over Des Moines North.

The Bulldogs picked up wins in four of the six singles matches played against the Polar Bears, including a 6-2, 6-4 win in the top singles match by Marcus Storto and a 6-2, 6-2 sweep secured by Maverick Rath in the No. 3 singles match. Ottumwa players also picked up wins in four different tiebreakers, including a 7-3 win in a second-set tiebreaker by Moses Francisco and Kendrick Rath to clinch the No. 3 doubles match as well as an 8-6 second-set tiebreaker secured by Kinnick Monohon and Grady Zeithoff scoring the last five points to force a decisive 10-point tiebreaker to decide the No. 4 doubles match, won by the Ottumwa teammates 10-7 to secure the dual.

Ottumwa (1-0, 1-0 Iowa Alliance) is set to host Des Moines Roosevelt on Thursday at Dan Staggs Family Courts starting at 4 p.m.
