Andy Roddick reacts to Jannik Sinner’s Sunshine Double sweep

Jannik Sinner recently wrapped up the ‘Sunshine Double’, picking up back-to-back titles at Indian Wells and the Miami Open.

He did it in straight sets each time, extending his unbeaten streak in Masters 1000 events to 19 matches.

The Italian had a slow start to the season after missing out on titles at the Australian Open and Qatar Open but found his stride again in America.

Sinner also became just the third man to achieve this feat without dropping a set, joining Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek on an elite list.

Speaking on his podcast, ‘Served with Andy Roddick‘, the former world number one highlighted how Sinner has built on his game.

“It’s weird to look at someone like [Jannik] Sinner and go, I think he has improved since last year,” he said.

“If you look at the serving statistics from the US Open and later from last year, there is a very clear statistical improvement on first serve percentage and first serve points won.

“When you are holding at a 92% clip, and all of a sudden go up to 94, that is absurd.

“When you return that well, and this is with a ‘slow start’ to the year.

“If he serves like this on a hard court, I think he’s tough to beat.”

Is Jannik Sinner Now the Best Server in Men’s Tennis?

Sinner’s serve has long been one of his biggest weapons, but where does it stack up against the rest of the ATP Tour?

Sinner is also in the top 10 for two other categories and ranks first for ‘Serve Rating’ over the last 52 weeks.

On hard courts, there aren’t many players equipped to challenge him when he’s serving at this level.

Clay, though, presents a different challenge. The slower surface tends to neutralise power servers.

Sinner will get his first test on clay this season at the Monte-Carlo Masters, starting April 6. It’ll be interesting to see if he can carry this form onto a surface that hasn’t always suited his style.
