Jannik Sinner closes in on Sunshine Double after Miami Open final win.
Jannik Sinner is now just one win away from a bit of history after reaching the final of the Miami Open.
The Italian beat Alexander Zverev to advance to the championship match, where he will face Jiri Lehecka.
Since his loss at the Qatar Open, Sinner has not dropped a single set, and his recent form has been nothing short of dominant.
He won the Indian Wells Open earlier this month and now has the chance to become just the eighth man ever to complete what is known as the âSunshine Doubleâ.
Greg Rusedski pushes back on claims Jannik Sinner is a ârobotâ
Greg Rusedski, a former US Open finalist, shared his thoughts on Fonsecaâs remarks and took a different view.
Appearing on âOff Court with Gregâ, Rusedski explained: âPeople are saying heâs a little bit boring. They talked about it in the conversation that heâs a little bit robotic. I donât see it. I look at him, heâs continually developing his game.
âHeâs added the drop shot. Heâs willing to come forward. Heâs becoming a better player. So for me, Sinner is magnificent and great for the sport.
Rusedski went on to point out the clear differences between Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, saying:
âYou have two contrasting personalities â either youâre an Alcaraz fan, or youâre a Sinner fan.â
Greg Rusedski sees similarities between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic
âHeâs got a rock-solid mind,â Rusedski added. âHe has an incredible mindset because remember last year when he went through all that difficulty, where he had the drug case, where he got contaminated and had to serve a three-month ban.
âHe said, look, I only respect the people that I respect. I only listen to the people around me, and I donât worry about all the noise around me. So mentally, the guy is so focused. Heâs in the zone.
âPhysically, heâs a great athlete. He gets stronger all the time. Diet, nutrition, flexibility, losing weight, solid in the corners â get that combination, and it is ruthless.
âI call him Novak Djokovic 2.0. He does everything Novak does, but a little bit stronger at the moment. But also, heâs a lot younger, so itâs a lot easier for him to do that, even though Djokovic beat him in the Australian Open.â
If Sinner can get past Lehecka in Miami final with two more sets under his belt with no losses along the way he will have completed another record-setting achievement.
